Online reflection 3

I chose to reflect about the book Alex Ferguson: My Autobiography because I’m really interested in football and coaching.
In this book he tells us how he went from being a bartender in Glasgow to managing one of the world’s biggest football clubs.
Sir Alex Ferguson is without a doubt the UK's most successful manager ever. He managed a few clubs in his career in the UK but it was as the manager of Manchester United he will go to the history books. He stayed at Manchester United for twenty seven years and won an astonishing thirty eight trophies.

The thing that I’m curious about is how he managed to stay on top for so many years.
His first five years at United was not so great, but in the follow twenty two years he always ended up in the top three, winning the league thirteen times.
No coach or manager that I know of has had that amount of consistency.
You would think that a club or team will have a year when everything goes wrong, but after those first five years Alex Ferguson never did.
Of course he had a bit of luck with the class of ’92, they were the top class players, but even after they were gone he managed to keep winning with teams that didn’t had the same amount of quality. He somehow kept that winning mentality.

Was it something he did or was he just super lucky?
I think it is a little bit of both, he managed to evoke some kind of super mentality in to all the players he managed over the years and he signed the right kind of players.
He signed the kind of player that never gave up even if they were down by 3 at halftime, not every player have this mentality. I call this luck but some may say it’s great scouting.

Of course he had a great staff around him that help a lot, but he had something special that can’t be explained.
